|
|
hi
I'm running gentoo 2.6.27-gentoo-r8 with xfce4 installed. When I try to run just emerged VirtualBox it shows blank window. It should show the window with existing vms and buttons above, so I can manage and create new, but it shows only blank window filled with gray. It also hangs in that state, so I need to run killall VirtualBox to kill the application. When I run VirtualBox from xterm it writes no messages, just gray hanged window, only ctrl+c helps in this case. _________________ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/null

I am another one with exactly the same problem (except, that I use Fluxbox). I was running virtualbox-bin. Can't say what (which update) made Virtualbox unusable. Recompiling didn't fix the problem.
SOLUTION:
I found it here

If restarting VirtualBox does not solve the GUI display problem, then edit ~/.VirtualBox/VirtualBox.xml and set GUI/UpdateDate to "never":
| Code: |
<ExtraDataItem name="GUI/UpdateDate" value="never"/>

Thanks mieses
It works for me.

I had a similar problem after a new VirtualBox install, and found a solution
on Sun's forum: open a terminal and enter
VBoxManage createvm -name whatever -register
and ignore error messages. Then enter
VBoxManage startvm whatever -type gui
After that VirtualBox will start normally from the menu.
It worked for me in a couple of cases with 2.2.0
