I am unable to install Gentoo 1.2 in VMware 3.1 becuase
when I run
# make dep && make clean bzImage modules modules_install
the process crashes as shown in the screen dump:

On a side note, I searched for VM problems, and there are over 20 on this forum. If someone could post a HOWTO (or just list the imporant steps) to installing Gentoo under VMware, it would greatly appreciated.
Btw, I set it up to use IDE to avoid SCSI problems.

Your compiler threw a signal 11, which is a Bad Thing. What kind of CPU do you have, and what are your optimization settings? _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Hello,
i build it from stage 1 on VMware 3.1 with SCSI HD. I follow the install manual (very nice one). It works all without problems.
First i tryd the gentoo special kernel, later the crypto one with freeswan, works all great. I am working all the time with VMware, i installed all win versions, Red Hat, SuSe, Trustix, Debian, Sorcerer (also great thing), never had problems.
My machine: MSI Dual Processor board, 2 x P3 933, 1 GB RAM, 1 system disk, 2 spanned raid 0 disks, matrox dual graphics card.
Wunderfull combination. Dont´give up, it works fine.
much fun. |

ok, I got it to compile on another pc and finished the initial setup. when I reboot however, I get CPU usage of 100 and a blank prompt (should show up GRUB) with a non blinking cursor.
maybe I mistyped something, so I'll try again. |

I'm guessing you selected the wrong processor type.
What kind of proc do you have.. |
