I am running a PWS 600a and working on getting gentoo up on it. What is the current recommended stage1 tarball to use? Should I go with the releases, or the experimental? I have managed to get the machine switched over to SRM already and booted up with the live CD that correctly supports the /dev/sda*, but have had problems with the bootstrap.sh kicking out mid compile.

Thanks for any feedback.

The experimental stage1 tarball has no problems I know about, I would reccomend using it rather than the older one from the rc1 release.

The experimental LiveCD does have a few known issues, if you have any problems with it try using the stable one :)
