I have a Sparcstation 20 that I wanted to put linux on, and thought gentoo would be nice. I'm using the 1.4 cd. It boots up off the cd fine, but I can't complete the installation.
After running for a while - usually I can get to where I am trying to extract the stage 1 archive (which I have managed to start occasionally, but it quits early with an unexpected EOF) running any command not previously used, or tring to access any file not previously accessed results in a I/O error.
I cannot even get to a point where I can copy the tarball onto my hard drive - just running (right after logging in as root):
mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/gentoo
cd /mnt/gentoo
cd /cdrom/gentoo
then an ls shows an empty directory, and any other commands do an I/O error. Another note - on my cd, the cdrom is mounted on /cdrom instead of /mnt/cdrom, as in the installation instructions.
System specs:
sparcstation 20 w/96mb memory
2 external scsi disks - 1gb+2gb
1 internal 1gb drive + internal cdrom
1x 390X55 mbus cpu
Any ideas appereciated.

Dont know, but is it possible that you have a bad cd or a bad cd-rom drive? This seems kind of like a place to start anyhow. |
