Looks like it is starting to be uploaded to portage by Alexey Shvetsov - presumably it is hard masked until all the ebuilds have been upped and not for some other issue. So probably not long to go now. _________________ Jingle Jangle Jewellery |

I've been using KDE-4.2.2 since it went into the overlay,
which seemed to work very well.
As it was copied over to the official portage tree (still masked, i know),
i disabled the "kde-testing"-overlay and rebuilt it.
Now all my kde file associations are gone, and everytime i want to
open a file (video/text/whatever), i have to specify a program.
This only works temporary, as kde instantly forgets my choice.
This seems to be pretty strange to me. Anyone else experiencing bugs(?) like that?
PS: Sorry, but KDE (on gentoo!) is sometimes a huge pita. _________________ boris64.net 200x / visit my desktop / try these tiny kernel patches |

Just copy the big list of 4.2.2 stuff from near the top of /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask into /etc/portage/package.unmask if you want, although I'm not seeing media-sound/phonon-4.3.2 in portage.

Did you try to disable the bluetooth-useflag? I remember having a bluetooth-related error before (using kde-testing overlay), and disabling the useflag helped. Though I am not sure that your error is identical to mine.

Yup, that looks good, hadn't even noticed the bluetooth USE flag for solid. Must have slipped through the net. Only other question before I give it a go is if there is a phonon-4.3.2 ebuild somewhere. I'll go and have a rummage around the overlays.
EDIT - There doesn't appear to be a phonon-4.3.2 tarball on the kde ftp site. So I guess it doesn't exist. Am off now to try and upgrade. _________________ Jingle Jangle Jewellery |

I updated to kde-4.2.2 today. The install went fine but the applications menu is empty. Kmenuedit is empty as well. I used +kdeprefix on amd64. Running "kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental" did not populate the menu.
Anybody has issues like this? |

I just did emerge --sync, and when I try to update world none of the KDE updates show. With my make.conf file they should technically show.

Is there something wrong with my config, or the 64-bit updates are not ready? According to gentoo-portage.com they should be. |

I too had a completely empty applications menu after upgrading to 4.2.2, but the file associations were still there.
Thank goodness I took a full backup before upgrading... _________________ If ~amd64 ebuilds are cutting edge, then git-9999 ebuilds are chainsaws.

6.25 hours compiling on my trusty old XP 3200+ and I've got this problem too. Tried the lancelot launcher too, same behaviour there. Anyone know of a fix?
Serves us all right for jumping the gun...
EDIT - kmenuedit shows only one folder - Graphics, with nothing in it. Oh dear. _________________ Jingle Jangle Jewellery |

All current 4.2.2 issues fixed.
4.2.2 unmasked.
4.2.1 masked.
eclass updated.
xdg directories fixed.
...
...
...
transmision completed.
When having issues on +kdeprefix with misc apps pulling up -kdeprefix kde just unmerge them and emerge again. |

I still cannot update to KDE 4.2.2 despite doing emerge --sync. My understanding of what you said is that the update is available. I posted my emerge --info above.

Well i am reporting CVS state.
It will hit rsync mirrors in ~1 hour maybe later depending on rsync catchup.
I really looks forward to git support :] |

For all whom was too eager to try the masked thing in the main tree.
Wait your mirror to catch up (i guess since i did it aroun 2am (now is almost 3am) it should catch up soon)
then run
emerge kdelibs kdebase-startkde -1
This should fixup all mising variables around
Also there were some other fixups but kdelibs and startkde are the one most needed |

Cheers Tomas. Grabbed the updated patch for kdebase-startkde and all is well here.
For anyone else - kdelibs update is just an RDEPEND for >=x11-misc/xdg-utils-1.0.2-r3 and some minor deletions so you probably don't need to rebuild kdelibs if x11-misc/xdg-utils-1.0.2-r3 installed for you (it compiled OK here but didn't install - temporary workaround is to emerge with doc USE flag).
Filed a bug about that and it's been fixed by Mike Auty in CVS.

In the kdelibs-4.2.2 ebuild you find the following lines:
| Code: |
PATCHES=(
"${FILESDIR}/dist/09_disable_debug_messages_if_not_explicitly_enabled.patch"
"${FILESDIR}/dist/20_use_dejavu_as_default_font.patch"
"${FILESDIR}/dist/23_solid_no_double_build.patch"
"${FILESDIR}/${PN}-${SLOT}-fixx11h.h.patch"
"${FILESDIR}/${PN}-${SLOT}-fix_kio_http_401.patch"
"${FILESDIR}/${P}-kickoff-focus.patch"
)
|
The last three patches are missing from the folder "files". I had to commented these three lines. Are these patches important? |

It's OK here. I had this problem with certain versions of xorg and plasma (and kwin maybe) but I don't remember exactly which, it's been a while. However recompiling these solved it for me. |
