When I do the below, you can see that "something" happens to the file.
Code: | April ~ # dd if=/dev/zero of=filesystem.bin bs=1024 count=$((64 * 1024)) 2> /dev/null
April ~ # mkfs.ext2 -F filesystem.bin &> /dev/null
April ~ # mkdir filesystem
April ~ # md5sum -b filesystem.bin
3bb094fb437027495755e9185850db1c *filesystem.bin
April ~ # mount -o loop,ro filesystem.bin filesystem; umount filesystem
April ~ # md5sum -b filesystem.bin
3bb094fb437027495755e9185850db1c *filesystem.bin
April ~ # mount -o loop,noatime,nodiratime,norelatime filesystem.bin filesystem; umount filesystem
April ~ # md5sum -b filesystem.bin
867c316d61165cc99638bfa656e1dbed *filesystem.bin
April ~ # mount -o loop,noatime,nodiratime,norelatime filesystem.bin filesystem; umount filesystem
April ~ # md5sum -b filesystem.bin
228af00f3b88ca36742140c24d53b3e5 *filesystem.bin
April ~ # mount -o loop,noatime,nodiratime,norelatime filesystem.bin filesystem; umount filesystem
April ~ # md5sum -b filesystem.bin

The last time of mount and the number of times the "disk" has been mounted gets updated. (Possibly more?) Is there a way of preventing this, without A) readonly and B) a kernel patch?
I know it's probably useless for practical purposes, I'm just asking for the heck of it.
Can it be done with another FS than ext2? |
