I still can't cat a file directly to the device, but I can print through cups, so what the heck?

Nforce2 mobo
Epson Stylus Color 740 on USB

2.4.21-vanilla w/some cflags

Modules loaded:
usbcore
usb-ohci
ehci-hcd
printer

cat /proc/bus/usb/devices shows my printer there, as does dmesg

However, catting a file to /dev/usb/lp0 produces exactly no result.

What am I missing here? This is driving me batty.

In the manual, does it say you can print from DOS? I can print to my Canon BJC-6000 from cups but not directly byt cat'ing the file and redirecting to the printer. I have tried to print from DOS but was not able to (had to try).

DOS? Was dat?

And yes, piping a file to the device should work just fine. And no, the manual won't cover it. That's why we're all here.
