Hi. What ftp software (if any) comes with Gentoo? And what is the command to run it? I tried just plain old "ftp" but that didn't work. thanks

that's the beauty of gentoo -- you get to choose what program you want for whatever.

if you want the standard "ftp" program you're used to, do a
Code:
emerge ftp

and that's it.

You have wget by default, but that's only useful if you know that exact URI of what you're looking for.

For a decent GUI interface try 'gftp'. If it doesn't fit there are quite a few other GUIs available in portage.

For scripting you may want to look at 'ncftp'. It gives you some additional flexibility beyond the vanilla version.

Each of these, of course, must be installed (i.e. emerged).
