Hi People:
After a general upgrade of my Ultra5 (all packages compilations went ok), everything works ok except for DHCPCD.
It ignores IP address received from DHCP server.
These are the messages shown at system startup when starting eth0: Code: | eth0: dhcpcd 4.0.7 starting
eth0: broadcasting for a lease
eth0: offered 10.177.32.100 from 10.30.251.70
eth0: checking 10.177.32.100 is available on attached networks
eth0: ignoring offer of 10.177.32.100 from 10.30.251.70
eth0: NAK: (null) from 10.50.63.1

/etc/conf.d/net contains: Code: | config_eth0=( "dhcp" )
dhcpcd_eth0="-t 120"

Before the upgrade, DHCPCD worked ok.
I don´t remember the number of previous DHCPCD version.
Kernel is 2.6.23-r3 (just because of X11 problems with kernel versions >=2.6.24)

i am not roy marples, and i did not study the changelogs about your problem, but you might try a newer version of dhcpcd, dhcpcd-4.0.11 is current. |

You might also mask dhcpcd versions >= 4.0. There are some issues of RFC compliance that dhcpcd-4 expects that may be causing your problems. I haven't fully probed this out - I've just stuck back at dhcpcd-3.x. I really ought to investigate this further, because dhcpcd-4.x does have a mechanism for working with older, noncompliant servers. Simple matter of time, or lack thereof. _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |

Thanks for the answer.
I will downgrade dhcpcd and mask >=net-misc/dhcpcd-4

Now you're making me feel guilty. One of these days I should take the time to get dhcpcd-4 working properly, and here I am backing others off. _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |

Thank you, depontius.
Downgrading DHCPCD worked ok, and seems to be the only solution by now for my Ultra5.
Maybe one day i can use DHCPCD >= 4.0 , but up today gives some troubles, at least with my DHCP server and my particular machine and configuration.
It doesn´t mean that is unstable or useless, maybe it works for another people with different kind of sparc or DHCP servers.
Greetings. _________________ Charly Tango

There is an issue where chcpcd-4 requires that the dhcp server be compliant with a certain RFC. I think that's the problem I'm having. There is a command line/configuration file option to get around that, and do things the old, non-compliant way. There's also a USE flag that will do the same thing. I just haven't had time to experiment with any of that.
Plus on my laptop, where I'd be most likely to do the experimentation, I've got a set of "network adaptation scripts" that tweak the configuration based on where I'm connected. The hooks have all changed in dhcpcd-4, and I'd have to redo all of my stuff. Worthwhile, but not today. _________________ .sigs waste space and bandwidth |
