Ji, all.

Ever since running python-updater, I have been getting python errors, and pygtk errors. In a moment of desperation, I thought that i'd remove and then emerge python.

I knew that this may be a problem, so I did

Code:
emerge --unmerge --pretend python

to see whether it would cause any conlficts. Nothing detrimental seen, so I went ahead. Now I can't
Code:
emerge python

because it looks like emerge depends on python.

Can anyone help me out? If not, it may be time for another install.

Thanks,

Chris.

Both the Live CD and System rescue CD have python in them. Add the CD's python to your path and rerun emerge python.

Btw: What python errors you got after running python-updater?

jmz2,

Thanks for this. It all seemed to start after I ran the python-updater script. Before that, a package wouldn't install (avahi), because pygtk seemed unavailable. It was suggested I run python-updater. I can't remember what the subsequent messages were, but I got them when I tried to run Denu (http://freshmeat.net/projects/denu/) for example (builds menu entries, in this case, for openbox).

Could you be a bit more specific about installing the python package from the CD? I worry that when I've done this, I'll have to run python-updater and I'll be back where I started.

Any help appreciated.

Chris.
