I have been testing Gentoo as a second drive in a dual boot system. I'd like to put my drive in a new system as the primary OS. I'm sure this creates no end of problems. In addition to the drive references being wrong, the hardware would be slightly different. I was wondering if it would just be easier for me to back up some files and start from scratch. Anyone done this?

Actually, just move the second drive into the first position, boot up the Gentoo install CD, and do this:
Code: | # mkdir /mnt/gentoo
# mount /dev/ROOTPARTITION /mnt/gentoo
# nano -w /mnt/gentoo/etc/fstab |
Edit your fstab to reflect hdb becoming hda (or whatever). Then, install Grub:
Code: | # grub
grub> root (hd0,0)
grub> setup (hd0) [again, substitute as necessary]
grub> quit |
Edit your menu.lst according to the Install Guide:
Code: | # mount /dev/BOOTPARTITION /mnt/gentoo/boot
# nano -w /mnt/gentoo/boot/grub/menu.lst |
Then, just unmount everything:
Reboot, and Gentoo will be happy. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs.

Sounds easy enough. I'll give it a try. Thanks. |
