I recently upgraded to xorg-server-1.5.3-r1 and with it came xf86-input-synaptics touchpad mouse driver. It is pretty nifty, and I followed all the instructions to move my mouse configuration out of xorg.conf and into the new .fdi file for use with hal (http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Synaptics_Touchpad/Xorg_7.3).

Got some cool new features like scrolling from the touchpad, but my mouse buttons are total crap so I've relied heavily on tapping the touchpad to simulate a left click (or double left click). This used to work fine, and by all accounts on any synaptics documentation I can find it should still work, but it does not.

Has anyone experienced similar trouble, or have any ideas where to look for answers?

EDIT:
I set the SHMConfig variable to true so I could use the synclient program to modify synaptics variables in real time, found all the options available and messed with all of them. Apparently I had to change the TapButton1 variable to equal 1 and now my tap click works like it used to. w00t.

I think you need to set the SHMconfig to use most of those options. I wanted to get vertical edge scrolling, and enabling SHMconfig was the trick for me too.
