I have a Ultra80 with an Expert3D-Lite video card in it. Is there any way I can get X running? I can't seem to find a driver for it. _________________ "Barney sucks! Best Buy sucks! Sony Sucks! Microsoft sucks, Bill Gates is the anti-Christ and John Ashcroft can kiss my ass!" Wil Wheaton |

I have never seen mention of an XF86 driver for the Expert-3D cards.
Also, "xfree.org" doesn't claim it. You might check for more information
at "ultralinux.org" or on the Debian sparc-linux lists.
There is no XF driver specifically for the Expert card, but surely some else
has better information than I do. |

thanks, I've been googling all day long, haven't found anything, other than it isn't supported. Man this sucks, it's got two of them in it.
What kind of pci video card should I use to replace it? Will any one do, or do I need to get one specifically designed for a sun machine?

Are you sure the card isn't an Elite3D? That would be covered by the ffb driver, the same as the creator series.
Section "Device"
Identifier "Card0"
Driver "sunffb"
BusID "SBUS:fb0"
EndSection
Your BusID may be different than mine, I'm on an Ultra2 with the old-style UPA slots. |

There is a quick check for this, by the way. Assuming you can boot Linux
at all, should be able to do "dmesg|more" and look for a line that
looks like this (only with your card inserted):
fb0: Elite 3D at 000001fc00000000 type 39 DAC 0 |

Well, I think my way was a little easier, I took the card out, and looked at it. Printed on it is Wildcat on one side, and on the back, below the part number, is Expert3D-Lite, so I'm pretty sure that is what it is. Thanks for the suggestion though. _________________ "Barney sucks! Best Buy sucks! Sony Sucks! Microsoft sucks, Bill Gates is the anti-Christ and John Ashcroft can kiss my ass!" Wil Wheaton |
