OK folks -- no OS trolling here. I don't make comments about a certain crappy, overly-dramatic, nonsensical SciFi meta-series that should have died an ugly death a long time ago, so let's leave the OS potshots out as well.

spendabuck: the borders are changed with a windowmanager - metacity or sawfish. GTK1 themes have to be changed in the old gnome controlcenter (gnomecc) the GTK2 and GTK+ themes are changed in the new control-center (gnome-control-center).

Regarding your desktop question, have you thought about contacting the original creator and asking him/her how they did it?

This took me awhile to figure out too. If you're using the default window manager with Gnome2, then you need a metacity them (not a metatheme). I couldn't get the Aqua one to work for some reason, but I got AEon Marbles to work, which I think looks better. First go here
http://www.sunshineinabag.co.uk/metacity/
And find a theme you like for metacity, and download it and extract it to ~/.metacity/themes. Then set it using this command
Code:
gconftool-2 --type=string --set /apps/metacity/general/theme "AEon Marbles v1.1"

Where AEon Marbles v1.1=The name of the folder the theme extracted to in ~/.metacity/themes, then your window decorations should be changed.

It is generally a good idea to post follow-up questions in the same thread, rather than starting a new thread. Placing snippets of one conversation in multiple threads makes it very difficult for future users to glean any useful information from searching, etc.

Locking this thread in favor of this one

(thanks jay, for pointing that out.)
