Hi!

AFAIR this board uses an embedded savage core for graphics, so see this post:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=66263&highlight=savage

Maybe it helps....

I do not own any Savage-based board, so I cannot tell exactly what to do. Anyway I looked into that matter several weeks ago because I was interested in those EPIA-Boards. There seems to be a 2D-Driver from:

http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html

but the thread above tells that there might be an updated one from s3 themselves.

Good Luck! :)

No, that chip is on the "classic" Epias and the Epia V's. The Epia M has CastleRock graphics (CLE266).

The latest test version of xfree (4.3.99*) has the via driver included. I can't say how well it works, haven't tried it.

Your other option is to build your own driver from xfree CVS for your current version of X. That's what I've done. See https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=47796&highlight=epia for instructions.

The testing version of X will certainly be easier (just emerge it) but it may not be as stable.

The package is masked. Try
Code:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge xfree-4.3.99.9
or
Code:
emerge /usr/portage/x11-base/xfree/xfree-4.3.99.9.ebuild

Not guaranteed to be the actual path or filename, but you get the idea.

ok, I've emerged xfree 4.3.99.902-r2 but still can't find the via driver in the list of xf86config, been through it 4 times, what name is it under? via? castlerock? cle266?

Also downloaded via's binary drivers but haven't been able to install them, this preconfiguration for mandrake, suse etc confuses me.

Any help appreciated.
