HELP.
All my graphics are scrambled and I think my nvidia graphics card is screwed, as this happens in both windows and gentoo. I was able to get a X and gnome up and running by using the vesa driver but there is still some corruption(vertical lines) on the screen, i think this is due to vesa driver though.
The machine is a HP notebook with an Nvidia Geforce 8600M GS.
Is the graphics card broken? What can I do? |

If it happens in windows, then it's not driver related. |

That's what I was thinking. It looks like a hardware problem. Any idea if the card can be replaced? If I can recall correctly, nvidia-setting told me it was connected by 16x pci express. To me this implies it is a dedicated and not a integrated card. Apart from opening it up is there any way I can check this? |

They say prayer is the last refuge of the desperate. But today the spaghetti monster answered.
I don't really know what I did, but it is working again. After messing around with the vesa driver settings I got a strange gut feeling to try nvidia again and everything is now back to normal.
Thought one question still remains. wtf happened? |
