Ok, this is a bit new to me, and I just need some help wrapping my head around it. I' just did a
on my Gentoo server... The following interesting bit of info threw me, however:
| Code: | | [blocks B ] <dev-perl/ExtUtils-MakeMaker-6.05-r6 (from pkg dev-lang/perl-5.8.0-r12) |
When I try to upgrade "world" it says that ExtUtils-MakeMaker is blocked and to check --pretend to see what's up. The trouble I'm having is deciphering the meaning behind all this. To me, the --pretend output is saying that ExtUtils-MakeMaker is blocked by perl!!!? That's makes no sense to me. I would thing Perl is pretty important! 
Can someone part the fog for me?

| Hmm, the search fiel has to be bigger, it's like the 30th thread about this. Short summary: unmerge the blocking packages und upgrade perl. |

Well, I think there was a note in GWN about the new Perl and certain tools.
The ExtUtils-MakeMaker is no longer necessary, it's functionality is included into the new perl version. You can safely unmerge ExtUtils-MakeMaker. Then your update will work

That's what I figured it meant! I swear I tried unmerging the dern thing! hahaha Ok, I feel like a luser. Thanks for the help, and sorry for the brainfart. So many other *nix communities would have tore me apart.
