Hi frequently I have problems with unresolved symbols during a kernel compile. I always wondered what was causing this. On further investigation I have found that in my (newly installed) kernel-config file there are a number of references to drivers that are not visible when you run make menu config. For example I currently have problems with modules defxx.o, rrunner.o, skfp.o, 8021q.o nfsd.o and apm.o.
The first 5 modules are all listed in my kernel-config, but are nowhere to be found when I do make menuconfig
What's going on?
Of course it's possible I'm blind and may have missed something. The apm.o is more problematical, as this does have a mention in make menuconfig, but nevertheless it refuses to load and always gives unresolved symbols error messages when you try to insmod it or do modprobe with it.
If I have please let me know. Where can I find these modules in order to disable them? Also why should they cause so many problems anyway? I don't understand why the whole sytem has to be so picky... (But then again, I guess that's becuase I'm not a programmer).

Ok I found them all, now it's just apm.o that is causing problems. Why would apm.o cause unresolved symbols if I include it in my kernel compile? Is there something it depends on that I'm not including?
