i don't know what' wrong. i've been using portage 2.0.9 for a while now and everything's been fine. then i went to install a new package (texmacs, to be exact) and it said:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge app-office/texmacs-1.0.0.8 to /

and it stopped there. there was no hard drive activity. i even left it sitting there overnight, and the next morning, it was in the same spot. when i try to merge anything now, it just stops there. same with unmerging a package - it'll just say 'unmerging whatever' and sit there.

i tried to use the portage-rescue file, but nothing was fixed. i don't know what to do, short of manually removing all traces of portage and using the rescue file again - and even then, i don't know what files to delete.

i can pretend and get the correct listing of packages. rsync works, but my comp always downloads 0 files. i don't know if that's a problem on my end, or that there's just nothing to update.

anyone know how i can fix this one? any help is appreciated, thanks.
