Forum Members -
I am running Gentoo on my Dell Latitude D620, with an Nvidia Quadro NVS 110M video card. My X.org version is 7.2 and I am running the proprietory Nvidia drivers version 177.82.
What I would like to do would be to set up X.org so that when I boot up my laptop without the external monitor connected X runs with a resolution of 1440x900, and when I boot it up with the external monitor connected I would like X to run with a resolution of 1280x1024. Is there a way to do that? If not, is it possible for me to set up the different resolutions in my xorg.conf file and then switch between resolutions without having to restart X? Also any sample xorg.conf files for me to look at would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
James |

I think Xinerama is used to get two screens running at the same time, and that is not really what I am looking to do. I am just looking for one monitor at at time. |

xrandr can change the resolution on the fly. Something like:
xrandr -s 1440x900
or whatever. |

you can try to use krandtray , i think it could be really useful, if i only can get it work
it's a kde tray icon for the display manager (interface for xrandr?), you can choose resolution, orientation, enable/disable display etc |
