Hi,

I am using KDE 4.4 and I have a problem with the battery state information: the charge percentage goes to zero quite fast (within 30 minutes), and the system is suspended (as configured in the Power Management Control Module). After wake up, the first strange thing happens:
Directly after wakeup, the system is suspended again.

And then the second strange thing happens: I can work for about another hour, with the battery monitor showing zero charge. Well, that could be because of wrong information from the battery, but somehow the system notices when the battery is really empty, because after about one hour, the system is suspended again (to be exact, it is suspended twice, as before).

So the problem boils down to two questions:
- Which processes might suspend my system, so it is suspended twice?
- Where can I find the correct charge information?

One more note: when plugging in the power adapter, the battery monitor shows immediately positive values, i.e. there is no delay which corresponds to the uptime with zero charge.

Sounds like you either don't have the right drivers/software installed or it isn't configured correctly. What kind of laptop is this? What kernel are you using?

I have a HP Compaq nx7400, using kernel 2.6.32-gentoo-r7.

Hm. This may or may not solve your problem, but it will probably make your system a little smoother and more efficient: check out Pappy's Kernel Seeds and follow the instructions for using and configuring a seed (http://kernel-seeds.org). Either Pappy or I can help you if you get stuck anywhere (I proofread the pages for him, so I'm quite familiar with it by now - plus I always use those seeds and it really makes a difference).

If that doesn't solve this specific problem, we can take it from there.

Thanks for your reply - I'll have a look at those seeds later, it seems to be quite some work. When I have tried them, I'll post again. Might take some time though, my work currently does not allow me to do anything too time consuming.

Oh, it's not really that much work. You can follow the instructions without having to read all the explanatory pages. Depending on how fast your processor is (which affects compile time, of course), I'm pretty sure you can get up and running with a seed inside an hour.
