I have recently been looking at funtoo because I wanted a more up to date install when I build my quadcore based system in a couple weeks.
Now that Gentoo is releasing weekly builds does this make Funtoo unnecessary? I'm not a Funtoo expert but one of the only perks I see anymore is the core2 arch.
Please correct me here or let me know what you think? |

i'd suppose so, except like you said for the core2 arch.
drobbins also supplies his own modified portage repo, so funtoo still has its purpose. its about time gentoo's build process caught up with drobbin's. |

(1) Diversity is good
(2) I haven't tried Metro (the Funtoo releng tool), but it looks much cooler than Catalyst. _________________ /* Nobody will ever see this message */

I use Metro to build some fr_CA Stage 3 and it works pretty good.
Also, I plan to install my first funtoo box at work, just to test the latest things from Gentoo and Funtoo. |

Until gentoo releng can provide unstable stages for me funtoo is still a necessity. |

In fact, this save us a lot of compilation and also the migration to OpenRc and Baselayout. |

The migration to OpenRC and Baselayout-2 is more difficult now that openrc-0.3.0-r1 has been removed from the tree. I can't justify keywording udev and sysvinit to switch. So, on my systems that currently have openrc-0.3.0-r1, I've just specified the package. However, on my new computer, I am not quite sure of the appropriate way to use the new OpenRC/Baselayout-2. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

It looks like it's still up in the air for me. I will have to keep reading. |

I just did an update to ~amd64 and it pulled in openrc 0.4.1-r1 and baselayout 2.0.0 . I was impressed at how easy it went, I just followed the upgrade guide;

I did have some fun with xorg-X11 7.4 _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dabbott/ |

In fact, if you read the migration guide, then I don't see how you can endup with some crash. |
