I get something like the following message when I try:
emerge -K /usr/portage/distfiles/packages/all/filename.tbz2

error message:
!!! DATA CHUNK MISSING... (something else goes here) !!!!

I dont have the exact message because I am at work, I just have the above and I'm hoping thats enough info for someone to help me out

It looks like something to do with a patch. Are you trying to install a binary package? Maybe the patch statements in the ebuild aren't necessary since its compiled already.

I do not have dsl at home so I downloaded all of the emerge -up world files at work on a T3.. burnt them and took them home.

These files include gcc, perl, python, xfree and several others

I am using only this command

Code:

emerge -k program


and not the archived file. Emerge will find the proper archive
Look also your make.conf file to see where the package directory is.

i did emerge -K foo.tar.gz (or .tbz2)

thanks.. I'll try emerge -k xfree when i get home

make sure that all of your binary packages are in /usr/portage/packages/All
if the All is lowercase, it will not work.

yeah I figured that out after a while...
had that same problem last night with the 1.4 cd's.. but someone from IRC helped me out
