First of all, I don't know if this is the right forum, but let's see ;)
Yesterday something weird happened... in the evening my gentoo server box just crashed without any reasons, and know it won't boot anymore.
Not even Knoppix. After inserting the CD and booting, the about the following messages appear:

Code:

Xæ@đðjđ«jĸłj˝æj“«¢»j˝: Error 1075929088 while loading shared libraries:
su(pam_unix)[951]: session opened for user skyrix41 by (uid=0)
./etc/init.d/rc: line 101: 898 Segmentation fault $debug "$@"
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000018 printing eip:

Oops: 0000

[...]
Code: 8b 42 18 a8 04 74 06 a8 40 75 41 eb 06 a8 01 75 02 31 ed 8b

Trying to boot from HD results in:
Code:

ttyS00 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
ttyS01 at 0x02fa (irq = 3) is a 16550A
Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address ffffffec printing eip:

<0>Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

:( funny thing is: older versions of Knoppix (have still a 2.2Beta here) boot, while the new one (3.2) doesn't ^^
Do you have any Idea what that could be? Didn't ever have problems with this box before, and now suddenly something like this! I'm running Gentoo Linux 2.4.20-r5 (gcc3.2), it's an old Celeron 366 (overclocked, but that's not the problem).[/code]

P.S. yes I did search but I don't think it's the kernel since neither one works, not even my old rescue kernels

Maybe bad RAM? Have you tried to run memtest86?
