Winex gives this error on all the games i've tried to install..
Code: | x11drv: Can't open display |
I have a GeForce MX 420 am trying to figure out what driver I should put in my ~/.transgaming/config file. I've tried nvidia (which is what I have in XF86config), nv, and NVdriver..all with no luck. I use FluxBox if that's relevant. Anyone have a clue? _________________ I'm no home run hitter, but I'll still step up to bat. |

Ok so I tried running winex on top of KDE 3 now it just spits this out:
Building font metrics. This may take some time...
After that it crashes or goes away..no process are running. Anyone know? _________________ I'm no home run hitter, but I'll still step up to bat. |

Winex requires X to be running , unless you create a seperate config for the game you are running ,
What particular game gives you this error? _________________ Theres no substitute for C.I. |

i had this problem and it was an issue with nvidia drivers.
try installing a later version of the drivers, or updating winex with latest cvs. |

Yeah I was running it from fluxbox. Jedi Knight 2 and Alice both give me the error.

Taskara what gfx driver did you specify in the .transgaming/config file? _________________ I'm no home run hitter, but I'll still step up to bat. |

I've used winex since it was first released, and have never specified a driver.
haven't used it since the new release tho I must admit, but from past experience that's what the problem was.
see if you can get some older nvidia drivers and try that.
if not, they have pretty good forums, but you have to pay the $5/month subscription fee.
I'd try:
start with a fresh config file (backup the one you've editted tho)
update to the latest cvs version of winex
go back to earlier nvidia drivers.
and see if you have any luck.
To download the latest source code via CVS, use the following commands:
$ cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex login
Hit Enter when prompted for a password
$ cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex co wine |

But I got the 'paid-for' binaries from a friend...should I still install the cvs stuff? _________________ I'm no home run hitter, but I'll still step up to bat. |

yep - install the rpm or the source you have, and then use cvs to get the latest snapshot. |

What is the syntax for getting the latest CVS? I try the instructions @ sourceforge and it doesn't want to work. I'm pretty sure I have the latest nvidia drivers unless the one the ebuild install is an older one. _________________ I'm no home run hitter, but I'll still step up to bat. |
