Alright, first of all, I should probably post my specs:

Abit IC7-G (Canterwood)

Drive Setup:
PATA Channel 1: Soon to be a Sony DVD Burner
PATA Channel 2: Lite On DVD-ROM and Plextor x48 CD Burner
SATA controlled by ICH5R: WD Raptor (contains Windows XP)
SATA controlled by Silicon Image: WD 200GB (has PATA>SATA converter on it... shouldn't matter much though) (contains Gentoo)

My problem is that the LiveCD doesn't detect the Raptor on the ICH5R unless I set it on legacy mode, which takes up the IDE1 Master and Slave. If I leave it like this, however, I will be unable to install my DVD Burner.

Alright, I've searched through the forums before and found some threads about similiar problems, but running the ICH5R in 'legacy' mode doesn't work for me, because I need those IDE channels.

Right now, I've just left the ICH5R alone and have been installing Gentoo on the WD 200GB. The kernel detects that just fine on the Silicon controller. Now, I guess it could be a solution to run the Raptor on the Silicon controller, but I'm getting another 200GB or 250GB drive that I wanted to put on the Silicon controller.

So... is there any way to make this work? Are there some things I should compile in the kernel to make this work or some modules I should load? Right now I haven't installed a bootloader yet, because at the moment I'm assuming it won't let me dual boot. Also, I have to pass 'nohotplug' on the 1.4 Live CD boot or it hangs at that point, I'm not entirely sure if it's related to the hard drive problems or not. If there's any additional information that's needed, I'd be glad to post it. Sorry for the long post.

Thanks for any help.
