Thanks for the guide. I have it working and I'm happy.
I imagined that I would have to use EHCI (USB 2.0) but OHCI does the trick. And for some reason EHCI throws errors.
For me, it shows up as /dev/sdb1
Also, I haven't really charged it or payed much attention to charging because I just got it, but mine just flashes the green light. I didn't see it turn amber or anything like the directions say. (Maybe I'll have to charge it on my windows box)
Thanks again, and just posting to say that it didn't take long at all with the guide to get it working. |

Always glad to help out. I did update the guide to reflect compiling in the 2.0 support (that was my mistake). I appreciate the feedback.
BTW, did you download gnupod on your own, or did you use the ebuild that was created? |

I ./configure && make && make installed the first beta version that had shuffle support a few months ago & version bumbed the ebuild to do the same. I now use the 0.98 ebuild that is on bugs.gentoo & it works just as well!
I sent the GNUpod developer a few dollars--nice program!

I downloaded gnupod on my own and compiled it on my own.
If I have some time today, I'll play around and see why 2.0 Support (EHCI) didn't work for me. At least its working now and I know what to go back to. |

I took a short break from my homework and I played around with EHCI and this is what I got.

I'm gonna go google around for those errors - but its sad that ehci isn't working.
Are you guys getting a charge out of it? Mine just flashes the green light when its plugged in, which I don't know if its good or bad. |

Yeah, that sounds like you're having problems with your USB2.0 card. I know when I plug my Shuffle into my USB2.0 ports, it flashes orange (charging). However, I do receive an error similar to one you are having with a cheap USB thumb drive. It's supposedly 2.0, but it gives me all those errors unless I plug it into a 1.1 port.
If I find out anything, I'll let you know. |

Your right but with Linux, it thinks its in "data" mode. Flashing orange in Linux is fine and it does charge through this behaviour. Its a Linux thing because the piece of hardware is not "truly" supported.

To get the expected behavior (solid orange for charging and solid green for fully charged), umount the device then "eject" the entire disk device (not the partition device). For example if your ipod shows up as /dev/sdc1, type "eject /dev/sdc" (without the "1"). The device will immediately exhibit the behavior that you would expect in Windows/MacOS -- the charging status will be shown on the LED. |

Hi,
I got an ipod mini (4gb) and i have to put some audio on it, unfortunately i cant get /dev/sda1 or anything to appear in udev. What mknod options should i use, so it will work with my Ipod? I have all the kernel options and hald/dbus/ivman... just cant mount the damn player because of the missing block device.

I have a new ipod shuffle. The tiny one with the clip. (http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/)
I was having trouble getting a udev rule sorted out for it until I realized it wasn't showing up correctly in /dev. It shows up as just /dev/sda. Should it not be something like sda1 or sda2 etc? I have some mass storage devices and they all show up as sda1 or sda2.
Is there some way to do this? Thank you.
