Hiya,
This issue has already been filed as bug 246252 ( https://bugs.gentoo.org/246252 ), please add yourself to the CC list there, and we'll try and get it fixed up as soon as we can...

Well, it looks like those issues have been solved. I re-synced and the emerge got past the missing files.
Now it fails with the following message:
Code: |
* checking ebuild checksums ;-) ... [ ok ]
* checking auxfile checksums ;-) ... [ ok ]
* checking miscfile checksums ;-) ... [ ok ]
* checking vmware-modules-1.0.0.23.x86.tar.bz2 ;-) ... [ ok ]
* Determining the location of the kernel source code
* Found kernel source directory:
* /usr/src/linux
* Found sources for kernel version:
* 2.6.26-rc4-zen1.2splash
* The ebuild phase 'setup' has exited unexpectedly. This type of behavior
* is known to be triggered by things such as failed variable assignments
* (bug #190128) or bad substitution errors (bug #200313).

Again, please file a bug report about this, and I'll be able to help much more easily. It appears this error is happening in the vmware-modules ebuild and not the vmware-player ebuild, could you please check that? Also, please note that kernels other than gentoo-sources aren't really supported, and your mileage with them may vary. Since this error is occurring in the setup phase, it probably isn't kernel related at all, but just to make sure you're aware...

You're right, it is happening in the vmware-modules package.
I think I should withdraw the problem report. It's likely that it is a problem with the kernel -- I have two other machines that have successfully emerged vmware-modules and vmware-player. Both the other machines are using gentoo-sources kernels. The laptop required some drivers that weren't available in the stock kernel, but that does leave me with an oddball kernel. Since that's the only one I'm having this problem with, it makes me suspect the kernel. _________________ Ignorance killed the cat. Curiosity was framed. |
