Hey, i'm trying to get X working on my Inspiron 1100, which has the horrible intel video chipset, i've been able to get ubuntu, and slackware up and running without any problems using the i810 driver, but my gentoo built one is having several errors that i can't seem to resolve, even after googling to much avail. Any help would be much appriciated....

hm... why the i810 driver? you *should* use the intel one. Try this manual:
