Strange X problem perhaps compiz

Running unstable branch and had a problem recently that once in X and Gnome when I lauch a app I get cannot connect to display 0.0. I have read a few posts and have re-emerge libview libsexymm etc and still no joy Also one thread said hostname must be correct so I have set everything back to localhost. Just now I have rebooted and I managed to open firefox, but a few minutes later I try and open a console and it does not appear plus any other app I try anybody else seen this ?

okay ... looks like it is the dhcp client killing my hostname when wifi is being connected! I did read this and fixed the name, and from a hostname it shows correct. Changed it all to localhost and it now works. Bizarre!!!
