Hi, hopefully you can help me out here. I do this:
Code: | hdparm -X68 /dev/hda |
And get this:
Code: | /dev/hda:
setting xfermode to 68 (UltraDMA mode4) |
But then when I check to make sure this setting has taken, I get this:
Code: | DMA modes: mdma0 mdma1 mdma2
UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2 |
Now on my other machine with the exact same hard drive I get this, which I think I'm supposed to see:
Code: | DMA modes: mdma0 mdma1 mdma2
UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2 udma3 *udma4 |
So it sets on one machine, but not the other. I'm guessing that there's a kernel option I'm missing. Could that be the case?
Thanks much,
Ben |

Read the man page more fully and found out I shouldn't be doing this. Doh.
Anyway to check what mode my IDE drive is operating in?
Thanks,
