|

was anyone able to achieve this? I just bought a new mobo (MSI P6NGM-FIH) and I get a lot of flickering on the screen if I use 1680x1050. If I lower the resolution the flickering goes away but the image that shows on the screen is a little bit distorted because 1680x1050 is my monitor's native resolution...
Any ideas?

Your chipset allows a single link dvi connection that can run 1920x1200@60Hz with reduced blanking.
I was able to get my old geforce 2mx ro run at 1920x1200@60Hz over vga so I guess almost every newer card can do it.
You might change from dvi to hdmi or vice versa to see if something changes. Both are digital so I don't really expect you to see a difference.
Have you already tried different screens? Like an old crt that can go nearly as high or higher? |

Thanks for your fast reply.
My monitor (Samsung T220) doesn't support HDMI...and my mobo doesn't support DVI (but it does HDMI :@), so I have to stick with VGA
Unfortunately, I don't have any other screen to try with. Furthermore, I don't even have Windows installed so I have no way to know if this is a Linux related thing or a hardware one... |

That's a good point...but I'm wondering if it is worth the money I mean, that converter costs about 13 euros and I can get a GeForce 9500GT (probably a bad choice, but its performance should be much better than that of the 7150) with DVI output for 55 euros.
Besides, I read
http://www.bjorn3d.com/read_pf.php?cID=1245
that this IGP should work well regardless of the output (DVI,VGA or HDMI)
The thing is I'd really like to use the GeForce 7150 (It's supposed to be quite ok. See the link above). So, yeah, I'm kinda confused
I think I'm gonna have to install windows to test it
Thanks anyway. |

I agree, you shouldn't spend money on a cable if your are thinking about that card.
If you don't intend to play some games with wine I would go with the cable.
You can always return the cable if it doesn't work out.
The cable is actually not a converter, dvi and hdmi are almost the same.
Hdmi requieres that you can transmit video/sound over the cable with hdcp encryption.
This is also doable over dvi but not every hardware supports it. |
