I've installed gentoo lots of times before but this time I came across some weird errors
So, right after chapter 6 (in the handbook - that is chroot, setting make.conf, syncing portage), when I try emerging anything, it fails with the following error:

emerge gentoo-sources build.log:

Looks like the environment is broken... and I don't know why!
Emerging works if I use for instance

Code: Select all

env -i emerge gentoo-sources
but that's a rather ugly solution.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Maybe you forgot to run env-update && source /etc/profile after chrooting ?

I didn't forget.

I managed to solve it by emerging the latest portage, along with baselayout, coreutils & some stuff, using

Code: Select all

env -i emerge -u portage
After that I emerged paludis. All is fine so far.

A bug perhaps?

I used the latest portage snapshot and stage3 amd64 tarball.
