Code:
qlist -S kde | grep 3.5
should give you a list of 3.5 packages. You might have others that depend on packages from this list (especially on kdelibs ).

Also:
Code:
qfile /usr/kde/3.5
should give you a list of installed packages that have files in /usr/kde/3.5, most of wich might depend on kde-3.5 libraries.

For more information about Blocked Packages, please refer to the following
section of the Gentoo Linux x86 Handbook (architecture is irrelevant):

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?full=1#blocked

I'm guessing this is because I have the 4.2 package.keywords file and not the 4.3 package.keywords file saved in /etc/portage. Is there an easy way to resolve the blocks??

Hi,

I run thru this when tried to emerge kdebase-4.3:

Quote:
emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy ">=x11-libs/qt-core-4.5.1:4[qt3support,ssl]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/qt-core-4.5.3-r2 (Change USE: +qt3support)
(dependency required by "kde-base/plasma-runtime-4.3.5" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "@kdebase-4.3" [argument])

If I put "x11-libs/qt-core qt3support" in /etc/portage/package.use I got:

Quote:
emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy "~x11-libs/qt-core-4.5.3[-debug,-qt3support]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-libs/qt-core-4.5.3-r2 (Change USE: -qt3support)
(dependency required by "x11-libs/qt-opengl-4.5.3-r1" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "media-sound/phonon-4.3.80-r1" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "kde-base/kdelibs-4.3.5" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "kde-base/plasma-runtime-4.3.5" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "@kdebase-4.3" [argument])

Any ideas ?

My emerge --info:

Thanks, I fix it with this:

but now I run thru circular dependencies:

That's IT! I'm through with portage @sets. Stupidest idea ever to make sets for certain things. I had installed kde4 with the @kde set a long time ago and now after an emerge --depclean it is ALL gone. Whoever tried to change things back then made a stupid decision. Back to installing kde-meta instead. /rant-over

Hi,

Why after update to KDE 4.6.2 users forced to install kde-base/kde-l10n (looks like it imposed by kde4-base.eclass) ? I prefer default builtin US English localization and don't want to install any other internationalization packages.

And that's what will be. The package installs, but contains no additional locales - don't worry :)

That's why it is completely insane to run --depclean without --pretend for a dry-run

...managing KDE with my own sets since 4.1...

Before I go into the details (because I'm tired), just one question ahead:

who has/had various "undefined symbol" errors with almost all KDE4 ebuilds?

Have you switched gcc versions, recently?

To 4.9.3, but this is a while ago, switching to 4.8.5 brings no success

Well, if a system is already hosed with incompatible C++ ABI deps, another switch of gcc wouldn't make that go away, because the problem is the installed binaries. But I don't really know if that is the problem here, without a more complete (any) error log. The problem won't be KDE4, so much for sure.

I asked for general experiences, not for a specific solution. In bugreports and myself the whole day yesterday we tried to fix it. The problems are all within the packages my guess it is in cmake, but all available versions fail.

I'm for now about to kick all KDE stuff. I'm only a bit sad about KDevelop, despite I use Debian for developing, Gentoo is good for cross-checking.

Could there be a connection to that CMP0022 warning and the "in-progress bug" cmake-utils.eclass: modifies files in src_configure() rather than src_prepare() (multilib race conditions!)

Again I'm building KDElibs, after that I will try to set the not recommended
Code:
cmake_policy(CMP0022 NEW)
on failing packages. Let's see...

Final conclusion: it seems only I have this problem, and all possible combinations of potential fixes coming to mind failed. Even over 13 years of C++ experience (but < 1 month of cmake) have been no help. At least I know I will stay away from cmake as long as it is ever possible. This b***t introduces more problems than it solves

Note: in the meanwhile I've tried a complete rebuild of KDE for around 4 times!

Case closed from my side (leaving it as bug with ugly workaround included)!
