I have a longstanding amd64 gentoo installation (from 2004) that has been kept reasonably up-to-date. Its coming up to time to do another update. Should I select default/linux/amd64/2008.0 (no 13) as my new profile? I see that default-linux has been replaced by default/linux:
Code: |
# eselect profile list
Available profile symlink targets:
[1] default-linux/amd64/2006.1
[2] default-linux/amd64/2006.1/desktop
[3] default-linux/amd64/2006.0/no-symlinks
[4] default-linux/amd64/2006.1/no-multilib
[5] default-linux/amd64/2007.0 *
[6] default-linux/amd64/2007.0/desktop
[7] default-linux/amd64/2007.0/no-multilib
[8] default-linux/amd64/2007.0/server
[9] hardened/amd64
[10] hardened/amd64/multilib
[11] selinux/2007.0/amd64
[12] selinux/2007.0/amd64/hardened
[13] default/linux/amd64/2008.0
[14] default/linux/amd64/2008.0/desktop
[15] default/linux/amd64/2008.0/developer
[16] default/linux/amd64/2008.0/no-multilib
[17] default/linux/amd64/2008.0/server
[18] hardened/linux/amd64

Just like to make sure that I'm doing the right thing. |

I guess you could just try it
A profile consist mainly of use flags and hardmasks. So upgrading is actually similar to a major change to your config files.

Hi, can you post your current emerge --info
Because if I'm right, you should use the 2008.0/desktop profile, but if have a lot of Use Flag like the X that you have added manually, then use the 2008.0 or even remove all your manual stuff and use the 2008.0/desktop profile. |

And by the way, run this command to upgrade all your stuff :
Code: |
# emerge -uDNv world
# dispatch-conf
# revdep-rebuild
|
Also, remember that maybe you will need to upgrade your python installation to the version 2.5.
There a lot of thread about this upgrade too.
Because I think that you will endup with python 2.4 and python 2.5 on the same box. |

Thanks. I've started it. Looks as if the main change is that the "multilib" USE flag is set and I need to recompile GCC and glibc. Looks simple. |
