Hi,
my current motherboard is dying and I need a new one.
I would like to build a Intel Core2 system, and I want to be sure that my new hardware will work with Gentoo.
I've searched through the forum for some advice about the newest Intel chipsets, but I didn't find much.
I'm thinking about one of theese chipsets:
Intel P45
Intel P43
Intel P35

I've chosen them because they all support both Core2 Duo and Core2 Quad and both DDR2 and DDR3 ram, as I'd like to be able to upgrade cpu or memory in the near future.
Looking in the forums, it seems that the P35 chipset is well supported, but I found nothing about the others. In particular, I'd like to buy a mobo with the P45 chipset, but of course I want to be sure it works with my Gentoo.

Do you have any advice? Thanks!

[EDIT]
Talking about motherboards, does someone have any experience with one of the MSI p45 series boards?

The only problem that you could have is this : The Gentoo 2008.0 minimal will refuse to boot, but if you use the SystemRescueCD you can have a chance that your box will boot.

Also, the worst that can happen, is that maybe you will have to wait until the kernel 2.6.27 available on a liveCD.

Thank you very much for your reply.
Is there a specific reason why Gentoo 2008 should not boot or just because of the new hardware could somehow not be compatible?

Just because the new chipset is not included in the kernel used on the LiveCD.
But perhaps it boots...

You could also use any LiveCD with a very current kernel and install Gentoo from there.

May I ask which chipset you have to use in the kernel?

TIA
