I edited fstab to add scd links for my cdr, on reboot, i get this error:

* Mounting /proc [oops]
* The mount command failed with error:

Warning, no newline at end of /etc/fstab

Since critical task, start cannot continue

I tried to edit fstab in maintenance mode, but / is read only
Any ideas?[/i]

Still have the Gentoo Install CD? Boot using it, mount your filesystems rw, then edit, unmount and reboot.

Then remount it read only with

mount -n -o remount,rw /

and then fix the fstab.

NB if you are using nano (ugh) to edit, do not forget to start it as

nano -w

to prevent the lines from wrapping around.

Uhh... if the root filesystem is readonly, how are you supposed to write the new fstab?

Try this.

Notice carefully the -o switch reads

-o remount,rw

the rw remounts the filesystem read-write mode

Right, I know, but you said:

And it would probably already be mounted rw, anyway.
