Hello all,

I've got an Asus M3N78 Pro with an onboard Realtek ALC1200 codec for audio. I've got
alsa running with the hda-intel module. All audio playback, however, has a lot of static
and an echo that loops about 1 second of music and nothing else for about 10 seconds at a time.

I've tried adjusting the position_fix variable and settings 2 and 3 seem a little better (but I could
be just imagining it). I've tried the alsa 1.0.17 driver (with-card-options=realtek) as well as
the driver Realtek provides on their website (also alsa, version 1.0.16 with patches). Both have
the same problem.

dmesg:
Code:
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:07.0[A] -> Link [AAZA] -> GSI 21 (level, low) -> IRQ 21
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:07.0 to 64
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC883, trying auto-probe from BIOS...

etc/modules.d/alsa
Code:
 # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
# --- ALSACONF version 1.0.17 ---
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---

I'm running kernel 2.6.25-gentoo-r7 with alsa disabled in-kernel and alsa1.0.17 drivers from source.
2.6.26 might work better but is unable to load the root partition no matter how I configure it.

Any help would be appreciated. Please let me know of any other information I need to post.

This might be closer to a solution...

The echoes and static stop with higher cpu usage. I am able to listen to (mostly) clear sound
when at least 1 of the cores on my phenom is busy. This is most apparent when transcoding 3 streams at
once - sound is clear.

Any other ideas?
