When my battery gets below 10% my laptop has a very loud system beep. I thought I disabled the PC speaker in the kernel. Any clues as to what could be causing this?

Maybe the system BIOS is actually the one detecting it and beeping at you?

I've looked at the BIOS and there are no options to enable or disable anything like this.

my thinkpad is the same way, can't really do anything about it besides rip the speaker right out.

I'm actually considering open up the laptop and doing exactly that... I often use up my battery until it's pretty much dead in class and I can't have my new laptop blaring every minute or so for the last 25 minutes of use.

i had a thought, there might be a way to tone it down, but i'm not sure if it will affect system sounds... try pressing fn+pagedown (depending on the laptop, it should have a volume label on it)... that might help, but depending on how you set your laptop up, it could turn down your system sounds too. :?

cheers
