How do I set up a slide show with the Gnome Screensaver?

Gnome Screensaver comes with a slide show "Cosmos", but I cannot find where that is kept in the file system. I'd like to use my own slide show.

Thanks.

Wait. Let me get this straight. You actually want to be able to configure a Gnome screensaver? Previous Gnome devs are rolling in their graves...

Sorry, couldn't resist. You might try digging through the registry... I mean your gconf settings (;)) to see if you can find anything relating to the screensavers. If it exists anywhere, it would be there.

Edit: As you can probably tell, the inability to configure gnome screensavers is a pet peeve of mine. :D

Thanks for the tip.

Well, turns out that you can't change it...

I found the answer here: http://live.gnome.org/GnomeScreensaver/FrequentlyAskedQuestions

It says that the slideshow screensaver looks for pictures in ~/Pictures, so I guess that if you create said directory and throw some images in there, they will be used.

Edit: note that all of your images must be in the ~/Pictures directory. You can't have subdirectories in there... however, I would guess that you could create symbolic links in ~/Pictures that point to your images that may be in various other directories and it would work. That would be a lot of manual work to setup though. This all reminds me why I don't use Gnome. (I just stick with either fluxbox or openbox)

You could probably remove gnome-screensaver and replace it with the old xscreensaver. Then you would have proper configuration options. ;)

Which begs the question. Why is the default folder for F-Spot ~/Photos?

The inability to configure gnome-screensaver only suggests one solution. Burn and destroy it.... Sorry but making a program limited in use and unconfigurable is digging its grave.

Anyone using gnome using another screensaver program, gone back to xscreensaver?

Alternatively to condemning Gnome and its devx you could also make a folder in your home directory called Pictures (capital P is important) and put the Photos you want to be displayed in there. Actually putting links there should suffice, but I didn't try it.
