Hello,
I am having problems with my installation, I have an Ultra Sparc 10 Creator 3D and I downloaded the 2.6.24 kernel version of the latest release.
my problem starts right after I enter ok:boot gentoo starts doing it's diagnostics but after i quickly shows me what kind of video card is looking it goes blank and i gets stuck in there.
The quick message display it shows before it goes blank is about a ATIFB and or MatroxFb. how can I tell Gentoo to use the video card that my Ultra Sparc has in it? Does anybody has encountered any thing similar to this?
Does anybody has a how to specific to a UltraSparc machine?
Any help is appreciated.

Maybe you should ask this question in the Sparc forum for answers based on more Sparc experience (or ask a moderator to move it). But since I saw it recently, I'd like to point to the Sun Hardware Compatibility List.
I see no Ultra Sparc with Creator 3D framebuffer in the list with kernel 2.6.24. Depending on the type of Creator 3D, 2.6.20-gentoo-r7 seems the highest. |

This kind of thing usually happens if you have more than one video card in your machine.
Do you have more than one video card?
When booting, the kernel will use the first framebuffer device(/video card) it detects for output. It doesn't care if a monitor is connected to that card or not and it also doesn't care about which card was used by the obp.
You can force it to ignore a specific card by booting the kernel with an option like this (to tell it to ignore all matrox cards)
then it will use the second framebuffer device it detects.
Another option would be to just connect the monitor to a different video card
