Emerge won't work, but I'm sure it is something minor:
EXAMPLE:
#emerge gnome
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 28, in ?
import portage
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py", line 55, in ?
import get binpkg
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/getbinpkg.py", line 9, in ?
from output import *
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/output.py", line 166, in?
parse_color_map()
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py", line 140, in parse_color_map
s = shlex.shlex(open(myfile))
IOError: [Errno 28] Not a directory: '/etc/portage/color.map
Besides this Gentoo works great . It was fun and relatively east to install, even though I was coming from Ubuntu (don't laugh at me ). _________________ Chuck Norris counted to infinity... TWICE. |

Are you running the latest version of portage(`emerge -ptv portage` should tell you, if you need to update)? If not, update portage first and try again. If that doesn't solve it, please provide your `emerge --info`. |

I think emerge is corrupted... I tried reinstalling it, using the latest version, but that didn't work. emerge --info replies with the same script...
Maybe it has to do with symbolic links, I don't know. Either way, that is the only thing that is wrong, by internet even works _________________ Chuck Norris counted to infinity... TWICE. |

If network is working, you could download a stage3-archive for your arch, unpack it over your system and then fix the rest. |

Could you explain a bit? I know a bit of Linux but I am (really) new to Gentoo. I used the (amazing) install manual to get through the install. _________________ Chuck Norris counted to infinity... TWICE. |

sounds like you may have updated python recently and broke some libs or something. If you have eselect-python installed you may be able to switch to the old version of python then run python updater or remerge/update portage or run a revdep-rebuild.
to see if you have multiple pythons and the whether eselect-python is installed do:
Code: |
eselect python list
|

Got it working. My friend SSH'd in and declared it was a lost cause... so I just reinstalled the stage 3 tarball and portage. 1 hour at most. Thanks btw. _________________ Chuck Norris counted to infinity... TWICE. |
