hi there

since a short period of time i get a very strange error while booting:
Code:
 * Calculating module dependencies...
modprobe: Can't locate module /dev/ide/hd/cd
modprobe: Can't locate module /dev/ide/host0/cd
modprobe: Can't locate module /dev/scsi/host0/cd
modprobe: Can't locate module /dev/scsi/host0/generic

then it continues normal with
* Using /etc/modules.autoload/kernel-2.4:
and so on...

what could this be and how to solve this?!

thanks and greetz,
hulk

/etc/init.d/modules calls modules-update at boot, and modules-update is trying to modprobe some weird crap, looks like. Were some extraneous lines added to your /etc/modules.autoload or /etc/modules.conf or /etc/modules.d/* somehow? Maybe grep them and see.

I had this error when I installed module-init-tools and went back to 2.4. Check to see if it is installed, and remove it if it is. This package is only needed for 2.5.x and higher versions of kernels.

hello,

big thanx for your answers! first i tried to umerge these module-init-tools. worked great and was very possible cause i already tried out a 2.5 kernel. but now i get another error instead while booting:
Code:
 * ERROR: system is missing /sbin/depmod !
 * Failed to start /etc/init.d/modules

im now gonna try to check these module files like Unne said, but if you, FormerSlacker, have the solution for this problem already it would be much better :D

greetz,
hulk
