Hi All,

Got gentoo running on kernel 2.6.27-gentoo-r3 on my SunBlade 1000. New install.

Trying to get X working, but whenever I use startx, my monitor (a Dell P990) displays the message: "Monitor is working - out of scan range". I'm assuming this is the monitor popping this up, since the message had a different format and different text when I was using my Samsung 226BW.

I started with the ATI driver (xf86-video-ati), which is turn started the mach64 driver. So I ended up just pointing to that driver directly. That, in turn, seems to look for another mach64 driver - but I'm not sure if that's the issue or not.

Part of my investigations took me into the latest ~sparc xorg-server (and related code), but the result really hasn't changed.

I'm more than half expecting that it's an obvious typo...

Try either of the two -

Code:

Section "Device"
    Driver      "mach64"
    ...
    Option "reference_clock" "28.636 MHz" # or "29.5 MHz"
    ...
EndSection

Thanks for looking into this, but I've bailed. I started installing one of the packages I wanted to install - the main purpose for this server - and it's not available for sparc. And when I tried to build it myself, a couple of the packages the build required were not available for sparc. This is turning into a maze of twisty passages, all alike.

Word is that Ubuntu has what I need, so I'm going in that direction.

Thanks for the input, though. This support forum is one of the best parts of Gentoo. I'll be sticking with it for my x86 systems. Just not what I need for sparc.
