Hi all,

I have been experiencing a weird problem of late on my gentoo server here at work. Basically everything had been working fine for a number of years and then this problem arose.

Generally things go like this. I run an emerge --sync and it just sits at the "Receiving file list" part and does not do anything. I've let it go and there's no change. Usually I can get emerge --sync working, but only after aborting it via a control-C and doing it again (sometimes I need to do this multiple times!)

Any idea as to what the problem is? My networking on the machine is fine, so I'm a bit perplexed.

Best,

Alex

Your server is probably using the main rsync mirror rotation. If portageq envvar SYNC reports "rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage", sans quotation marks, it is and the problem can be fixed by using "rsync://rsync.uk.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" or "rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" instead.

That seems to have worked, thanks.

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads, refer to topic "Portage sync fails every time, io.c(458)".
