I've been trying xfce4 for a couple of weeks. It's OK but I seem to be having some saved_state issues. I am using NetworkManager and the nm-applet. I added nm-applet to my autostart applications and it was working fine. Then at one point I clicked on "save settings" when I logged out or shut down and the number of nm-applets autostarting has grown to seven. I even tried removing it from the autostarted applications. I've also tried rm-ing the saved_state file in .gconfd. I've also tried killing all the nm-applets running and then logging out while clicking "save settings" again to clear it. It just seems to have a mind of its own and really likes nm-applet.
Anyone experienced anything similar? |

Hi beijingjj,
nm-applet supports session management, so you shouldn't need to add it to the auto-started applications. Remove it from the auto-started applications list and try killing all the nm-applets. Start a single new one then save your session and log out and in again. It should start up. If you wish to add it to the auto-started applications list, you should give it the '--sm-disable' command line option.
Hope this helps,

I've tried exactly what you say, and it seems to work sometimes, but then after I reboot and come back in later I'm back to having multiple copies. I often use hibernate and suddenly I am wondering if hibernate is saving the state each time and somehow adding an additional one. I'll try again with your --sm-disable switch. |

I've just tried this and now it has managed to increase to 8 individial nm-applets starting up. I see nm-applet appearing multiple times in .gconfd/saved_states and have tried removing this file but it keeps reappearing with all the nm-applets in it.
At this rate my desktop will run out of space soon!
Help!
(thanks) |
