I've seen the error. I would emerge qt 3.2 and steal that file and put it in the cvs directory. That seems to work. I don't know what causes the bug though.

!!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!

New builds?

-kstars is not included. It has not compiled for several days and was holding up the release.
-kdesktop crashes upon startup. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Unless you have some compelling reason I would skip this release.

As usual please report any bugs, suggestions etc.

Hi Jeff,
just want to share my experiences:
-kstars doesn't compile for me, either
-kdesktop works as expected (and has done so for the past few weeks)

I usually compile once a week, kdepim is the one that gives me the most trouble, most of the times it only compiles by hand.

The kdesktop crashing on startup is a known and fixed bug.

It only crashed when icons on desktop was disabled.

Ya. Stuff is still not building. I think it is system corruption on my end though. I am rebuilding the build environment. I'll post a new build as soon as everything compiles.

I am noticing a problem with recent (~week old) kde cvs builds. When a page is displayed in konqueror, or an email in kmail, sometimes the window doesn't size right. What I mean is, the page loads and displays fine, but the horiz scroll bar comes up and there is just a bit of the page off to the right side that need to be scrolled to. About the width of the scrollbar actually. Resizing the window refreshes the page and the page scales to the window size correctly. If I close the tab and load the page again, same thing. It doesn't seem to matter how large the window is, maximized or not. Does anyone recognize this behavior? I can explain more if this is unclear.

New builds?

-kstars is again not included.
-Alsa seems not to be working. Not sure why. I'm looking into it though.

On another note: I very probably will be starting a new job in a week. It will be out in the bush for weeks at a time. I am not sure how this will affect the builds. At the least they will become infrequent. At worst I may not be able to do them all summer. If that is the case would someone be able to take over? It really isn't to hard to do. I'll let you know more when I do.

As usual please report any bugs, suggestions etc.

I have fixed the arts problem. You can download a working arts here. Put it in /usr/portage/packages/All and emerge arts -k

Larryboy, I would be willing to take over making these builds. I now have a decent dsl connection for uploading, 3 pretty decent machines running distcc, and goo-gobs of disk space. If I remember correctly you had a simple script to automate all of it? I would still need the assistance of whoever is providing the server and bandwidth for the downloads however. If this ever becomes a problem I probably could put together a bittorrent based solution. Let me know if you want to do.

The ftp site asks for a password. Enter doesn't work, nor does trying to get in as anonymous. Suggestions?

larryboy,
which server that is giving problem? Is it your home server or where the tarball is stored?

yokem55,
the tarballs are currently hosted on my server and looking at the b/w usage, I don't think hosting this gonna be a problem (got ~3TB/month to spend someway) unless I loose my job. If Jeff (aka iamlarryboy) ever stops building kde for us and you want to takeover please let me know and i'll create an a/c for you.

My home server is down. It probably won't be going back up as I don't have the time before I leave. I am also done my last build. It looks like yokem55 will be taking over the builds. You two should contact each other. In the fall after my job is finished I'll re-asses the situation and start doing builds again if necissary.

iamlarryboy,

Your efforts here have helped me a lot! Got me over the hump, not having to worry about compiling kde, I was able to spend more time on other things.

Thank you! Hope to see you back after the summer :-)

I'll go ahead and get an environment setup to start making builds of CVS kde. I'm thinking of maybe trying out the binary downloading support that Portage has built into it, so instead of a monolithic tarball of the packages, I probably would just start by uploading the individual packages and changing the install script to reflect the new install method. If users want to install the packages individually they could do that as well.

rtwick: If you can get me an acount setup on your ftp server I should have new builds ready to roll perhaps by the middle of next week. You can P/M me the details and if you need any other info from me that would be fine

Okay everyone, I've just started on a new build. Unfortunately I'm also having some problems with my local network (switch is acting flakey) and distcc is crapping out on me. Sooo...its a single machine build right now, and probably will take the better part of a day since I'm working with a barren ccache. I'll let you know what is up tomorrow.
