Bien, acabo de instalar xorg-x11 (o como se llame) y xorg-server. Luego, me pongo a configurarlo y cunado consigo el xorg.conf.new y lo pruebo me salta este error:

Asi por el error parece que tienes algun problemilla con AGP. Mira a ver si tuvieras en la configuracion del Xorg una linea tipo:
Comentala, y vuelve a intentar arrancar.
Tambien mira a ver como tienes, en la sección de "Device", tu opción "VideoRam". Yo tenía en mi antiguo portatil (que tenia una Intel 915) 32768, y me era suficiente, excepto para efectos visuales tipo compiz, donde ya tenia que aumentar esta cantidad.
A ver si te sirve de algo.

Parece que hay un problema con don AGPGart como te comentan mas arriba. Para empezar a aislar el problema, primero asegurate de que tu instalación de xorg-x11 es correcta usando un driver VGA genérico. Si todo funciona, recién entonces te podés centrar en que le pasa a AGP.
Si no lo tuvieras instalado:

Modificá la tu xorg.conf

De forma de que en donde dice Intel diga vesa y probá ejecutando startx directamente, sin parámetros.
Posteá el resultado a ver como procedemos.

Fijate que esté habilitado en el Kernel...
andá a /usr/src/linux y ejecutá make menuconfig y luego entrá al apartado
Device Drivers --->
Character devices --->
<*> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)

Si aún no basta o quieres postear otro dia por otra cosa, lee el manual. Lee el howto de tu gráfica. No soy un experto en XORG y dudo que me conozca todos los modelos y configuraciones posibles. Yo he podido con una no muy diferente y no es problema (con VESA y poco más). Si además quieres ayuda postea tu xorg.conf (o el .new). Mira esto:
