|
|
Code: | emerge search eclipse |
results in several results - several of which claim to be the Eclipse Tools platform. Ideally I'd like to install version 2.1 - which I see is masked, but there are still two packages so which one do emerge?
Is there a way to select whether the installed eclipse uses GTK or motif? If I'm right in thinking that GTK would provide better performance then that would be the way I'd like to go
Any thoughts? _________________ Old School is the way forward! |

if you want to code java you need the eclipse-jdt-bin for c the eclipse-cdt-bin. eclipse-platform-bin will be installed by portage wether you choose the one or the other. don't know what the sdk(-bin) is for. the eclipse-platform-bin is the gtk install.

If you want to do Java, emerge the jdt one, it depends on platform base and is the gtk2 version. |

I was looking at the ebuild for eclipse-sdk (2.1) which seems to be the only one that installs eclipse from source.
In the ebuild there are loads of files relating to tomcat - does this mean that tomcat would be installed along with eclipse? I already have tomcat installed and I don't want antoher one. Is it safe to simply comment those lines out of the ebuild? _________________ Old School is the way forward! |

Huh, well... considering that Eclipse is mostly Java, you won't gain much from compiling it yourself...

Eclipse installs its own Tomcat server for its help system. I dunno if you can get it to work with your installed Tomcat, but I'd suggest you to not worry about it and save the hassle (unless you have a strong reason for it, of course). |

But not all of eclipse is Java - I need to squeeze all of the performance out of it.
I have just emerged eclipse-sdk 2.1 and I don't actually have an executable for eclipse. Did I miss something? Do I have to emerge eclipse-sdk-bin as well? _________________ Old School is the way forward! |
