yes, I ran revdep-rebuild before posting. didn't change anything.

recently I even emerged gutenprint again and saw the following error (I think with my last emerge -uDN world, gutenprint got installed, before, the package was called gimpprint). So merging gutenprint generated the following error:

* Updating installed printer ppd files
/etc/cups/ppd/BJC7000.ppd: this PPD file cannot be upgraded automatically (only files based on Gutenprint 5.0.0 and newer can be)
/etc/cups/ppd/JaserJe4050#2.ppd: this PPD file cannot be upgraded automatically (only files based on Gutenprint 5.0.0 and newer can be)
/etc/cups/ppd/LaserJet5.ppd: this PPD file cannot be upgraded automatically (only files based on Gutenprint 5.0.0 and newer can be)
* Failed to update any PPD files

You are not alone in this one...

I'm getting the exact same problems here, including the rastertoprinter error and PPD file version problem.

I've tried creating new printers, that seems to get rid of the PPD problem but printing still won't work.

Has something major changed in the printer config / settings for cups etc? I can't find any changes in the printing Howto.

Post back if you find a way to solve this problem. Cheers,

Try ghostscript-gpl instead of ghostscript-esp!

While I didn't get the same type of errors. CUPS PRINTING on my LAN went from printing garbage on one printer to not being able to print at all on any printer. No amount of editing of the cups config helped the problems I was experiencing in any way. My original post is Here

My solution was to mask the new versions of cups and reinstall version net-print/cups-1.2.12-r7. Once I had it installed and a couple of minor edits, printing on my LAN was back up and working perfectly again.

Looks like its time to file a bug report........................ :? :? :?
